NanoTechnologies
The Nano-Materials, Electronics and Optoelectronics group in deeply involved in the targeted development of nanocomposite materials that find various applications in the sector of electronics. A major objective of the group is to develop synthesis and control techniques to create electronic devices based on nanomaterial in terms of organic inorganic and hybrid systems. Some of the advances could be categorized of carbon allotropes (graphene, carbon nanotubes) with several popular polymers such as PET, PVC, PMMA and ABS through extrusion and melt mixing techniques.
Solar Energy
Development of novel solar cells, incorporating nanomaterials such as carbon or metal nanotubes, graphene or nano-structured oxides. Investigation of alternative, environmentally friendly material solutions in Dye Sensitized Solar Cells.
Non Destructive Testing
CETRI non-destructive testing group offers a comprehensive range of non-destructive testing capabilities including inspection of structural steel inspection, piping, rails, aircraft wiring, composite aero-structures, road pavements, wind turbine blades, concrete materials, ship hulls, soil and area surveillance. We also use leading technologies like Long Range Ultrasonics, Acoustic Emission, active and passive thermography and Ground Penetrating Radar, which are particularly helpful in projects requiring limited access, rapid inspection of components such as welds, and for sizing defects and cracks. These methods offer advantages over conventional ultrasonics and radiography and allow for improved accuracy and efficiency. We have the experienced staff and resources to design, implement and manage R&D projects using and combining the following NDT technologies:
Long Range ultrasonics: Inspection and health structural monitoring with Guided waves, pulse-echo mode, through transmission mode, phased array focusing, FEA modelling of ultrasonic propagation.
Acoustic Emission: Inspection and health structural monitoring with high-level, low-cost Acoustic Emission sensors, attenuation analysis, calibration, signal features extraction, conditioning, detection and hit process.
Thermography: Passive/active thermography, Near Infrared imaging (NIR), transient thermography, pulsed thermography, step heating thermography, lock-in thermography, vibrothermography.
Ground penetrating radar: Inspection of various materials and structures with GPR, GPR surveys, 2D and 3D imaging, methods for calibration and setting-up, Data collection, display and analysis, laboratory and field measurements, numerical simulations to estimate the antenna response over various material types.
